Clarifying vs Moisturizing Shampoo

There are tons of shampoo’s out there on the market. Some claim that they can be used daily, others claim to be moisturizing, and still others claim to be clarifying. But what exactly is the difference between these classifications of shampoos? And how do they fit into a hair regimen? After asking myself these same questions, I did some research, and here are the conclusions that I came to.

Product Description: Pampered Roots Coconut & Honey Hydrating Cocoon is a dual complex of moisture and curl defining properties that leaves your hair nourished, shiny, and like silk. Coconut oil and honey nectar complement each other to moisturize, define, and reactivate your kinky curls. Essential oils such as coconut and grapeseed seal in moisture while honey helps to create definition. Fragrance: Light Vanilla scent – pleasant and not overpowering.Pampered Roots Coconut and Honey Hydrating Cocoon

Texture: It feels like lotion. It’s not very thick, but it’s definitely thicker than anything you can put in a spray bottle. It jiggles in the container just like the clear gel that all of us naturals have used at least once in our lives.

My Experience: I used this on dirty and thirsty hair. I parted my TWA into sections and applied dime sized amounts into the sections as directed. While doing this, I noticed it was making my curls more defined as I raked the product thoroughly through my hair. My hair seemed to like the product and it made my hair very soft & supple. This leave-in is the only product put in my hair to see how well it re-moisturized my thirsty hair and how well my hair retained its moisture throughout the day. I was pleased to find that it kept my hair moisturized all day, despite the hot weather we are STILL having in Florida!

Hair Texture: This product was used on 4a/ 4b colored hair.

Final Results: Overall, I really like this product and give it a raving 5 stars! Not only is it natural, but it is also has a light scent that’s not overpowering, the texture was creamy, it was very moisturizing, and the product is cruelty free! I am a huge fan of products that say claim to be moisturizing/hydrating and live up to that claim on my textured hair. It has a nice slip to it for light finger detangling, but I wouldn’t detangle with a comb or brush using this product only. I feel that there was a fair amount of conditioner (4 oz) for the price. Pampered Roots has a new customer as I will be purchasing this product again!

How To Finger Detangle 4C Natural Hair……….. The Easy Way

I have used several tools and techniques to detangle my 4C hair. I have been a user of the Denman brush, wide tooth combs (still a fan), and other tools for a long time. I have always noticed how much hair is on the brush or comb after detangling and it was always a nice clump of hair. Continue reading

Protective Styling 101

Protective Styling is the idea that styling your hair in a way which reduces or eliminates daily manipulation promotes length retention. Protective styling requires the tips of the hair to be tucked away and not worn loosely for an extended period of time consisting of days, weeks, or even months.

First, let’s discuss the truth about hair growth, shedding and growth retention. Continue reading
